Transport KTX recently completed a new exceptional transport operation between Rotterdam , the Netherlands, and Nantes, France, involving the transportation of an impressive Fundex F4800 drilling rig to a project site in France.
With a length of 24 metres, a width of 3.50 metres, a height of 3.73 metres and a weight of 85 tonnes, this machine required specific planning and a transport configuration adapted to its dimensions and weight.
An Operation Prepared in Advance
Transporting equipment of this scale involves much more than simply moving it from point A to point B.
The Transport KTX team carefully prepared the operation, taking into account the machine’s characteristics, the permits required for the exceptional convoy, as well as the constraints associated with loading and weight distribution.
The F4800 was collected from the Fundex Equipment site in Rotterdam , the Netherlands, for transportation to the project site in Nantes, France.
Weight Distribution at the Heart of the Loading Operation
During loading, our team identified an important technical issue: in the initial configuration, the machine’s centre of gravity was positioned too far towards the rear of the trailer, resulting in excessive pressure on the rear hydraulic axles.
For Transport KTX, convoy safety and proper weight distribution remain top priorities.
The position of the machine therefore had to be adjusted in order to achieve a better distribution of the load across the vehicle combination before the operation could continue.
This intervention illustrates an essential part of exceptional transport: being able to adapt the convoy configuration to the actual characteristics of the load on site.

85 Tonnes Bound for Nantes
Once the configuration had been validated, the convoy was able to continue its journey to France and reach its final destination in Nantes
This new operation further strengthens Transport KTX’s experience in the transportation of industrial machinery, heavy equipment and oversized loads across Europe.
From transport engineering and permit management to loading and final delivery, our teams support our customers throughout operations requiring specialist expertise in exceptional and heavy transport.
